Einstein enters class IIIa of the Petersschule. The class has seventy pupils. Einstein is transferred to class IIIb of the Petersschule. Einstein enters class IVb of the Petersschule. The class has seventy-one pupils. Entrance examinations in religion, German, and arithmetic are held at the Luitpold-Gymnasium in Munich. Einstein enters the first year of the nine-year Luitpold- Gymnasium program. The school year consists of a winter semester, from 1 October (10 September from 1891 on) to the Friday before Palm Sunday and a summer semester, from the Tuesday after Easter to 8 August (14 July from 1891 on). Medical student Max Talmey meets Einstein at his parents' home. They become close friends, and in the ensuing five years, Talmey discusses a number of mathematical, scientific, and philosophical topics with Einstein. The Einstein family registers temporarily in Planegg (near Munich) prior to moving to Milan. Einstein stays in Munich to finish his secondary schooling. Einstein begins his seventh year at the Luitpold- Gymnasium.
