From Hermann Anschütz-Kaempfe Kiel, 2 July 1922 Dear, esteemed Professor Einstein, For formality’s sake I add the information that the date was shifted once again by two days, therefore climbing to July 10th.[1] Kossel declined the opposing party[2] so now there isn’t going to be any neutral expert present at all the court now wants to rely exclusively on the privately engaged experts. If it should be impossible for you to come, then please do send me a telegram so that we can get a private expert in time I can imagine that you have more important and better things to do. The latest I have to report in the area of materials issues is that the tests with the carboniferous rubber are very promising [3] I obtained a quite excellent product with astonishingly high conductivity—c. 1 per cm3. I have also been thinking a lot about the surveying compass [4] I am now trying to mount a mirror loosely, just by a carrier, onto the axis of the gyroscope, that is, onto one end of the axis, and I assume that during rotation it will have to set itself completely vertically to the gyro’s axis am I right about this, I wonder? Thus the arrangement is: My wife and I are very much looking forward to being able to welcome you per- sonally, and hopefully Mrs. Einstein, at last we also want to order fine weather so that there is no danger of a chill. You do know what pleasure you give us when you come. And a good new sail- boat is also standing ready for you. Most cordially from both of us to you and Mrs. Einstein, yours, Anschütz-Kaempfe.
