ALS from Maurice Solovine. Is prepared to translate Ein-
stein 1917a into French. Reminds that AE had promised
him that he would be the exclusive French translator of

Jan 18 ALS from E. Pickworth Farrow. In replying to AE’s letter of
28 Dec 1920 (Vol. 10, Doc. 245), is glad to hear that AE
does not feel unhappy in Berlin. Assures him that the
English people do not feel illwill toward Germans, only
toward the military caste. [43 664].
TLC from Otto Lehmann-Russbüldt. In a circular letter,
asks AE’s and others’ consent to add their names to a list of
members and supporters of the BNV. [44 306].
Jan 19 TLS from Federigo Enriques. A recently formed committee
at the University of Bologna plans to organize annual con-
ferences at which leading foreign scientists would present
their results. They intend to begin the series with AE lectur-
ing on relativity. Offers 3,000 lire for travel and subsistence
costs. Proposes that AE lecture in Italian or in French, but
can provide an interpreter if necessary. [9 227].
TLS from Friedrich Schmidt-Ott. Upon the initiative of
Hugo Lieber, New York, the Notgemeinschaft der deutschen
Wissenschaft will set up an honorary committee to
strengthen its propaganda in the U.S., and AE is asked to
join the committee. [44 601].
TLS from Vieweg. Huber, the Polish translator of Einstein
1917a, found a publisher in Lemberg who offers only
500 M as a flat rate. Vieweg proposes to share the sum with
AE as agreed upon earlier. [42 083].
Solomon Ginzberg to Keren Hayesod Berlin. Suggests that
they contact a Mr. Bishkovitch, who had proposed to Chaim
Weizmann that AE be invited “to settle in Palestine in con-
nection with our future University” and who was prepared
to “inaugurate a special ‘Einstein Fund’ for that purpose.”
