Lorentz and International Cooperation [Einstein 1928k] Dated January 1928 Published between 4 February and 29 April 1928[1] In: Grotius: Annuaire international pour l’année 1928. The Hague: Nijhoff, 1928, pp. 1–3. Postscriptum Before these lines could be published, death took Lorentz from us while at the height of his irreplaceable activity. He was not given the chance to see the success of his devoted work in service of promoting understanding amongst peoples. But there is a way in which we can show the gratitude that we should to him, which is by overcoming doubt and pusil- lanimity according to the noble example that he gave us and by working together, full of hope and in his spirit, toward the realization of this grand goal! Leyden, 9 February 1928 A. E. [Translation of published postscript only see Doc. 95 in this volume for English translation of German draft.] 118. From Alfred Einstein Berlin S. W. 19 Jerusalemer Straße 46-49, 3 January 1928 Dear Professor, This time a letter addressed to you has flown onto my desk, and in the heat of battle I opened it, for which I beg you to forgive me. My move to Berlin is increas- ingly turning into a postal calamity, and perhaps not solely a postal one.[1] Yours sincerely, Alfred Einstein [p. 3] [p. 4]
