289. From Hermann Anschütz-Kaempfe
Kiel, 20 July 1924
Dear, esteemed Professor Einstein,
I’ve been here for 3 days and am going to be driving southwards again on the
1st. On the 3rd I shall be in Lautrach.
When are the boys
coming,[1]
and when are you coming? It’s no use, even if it
does go against your fatalistic sense; I have to know, because the automobile must
wait for you in
Memmingen.[2]
There will be a major ceremony in Lautrach on Aug. 3: war-memorial
unveiling;[3]
I am supposed to be there, it is painful.
It’s interesting here; but I shall tell you all about it personally.
Sommerfeld was in Lautrach 8 days ago; I told him about the newest theory of
the sausage-shaped atom; it visibly did not agree with
him.[4]
I think we’ll continue
to develop this theory in Lautrach.
The Holy Ghost isn’t here at the moment; he is only coming back in
October.[5]
So, just write me, even if it is in secret rancor, how it’s going to be with the boys
and with you; I’m just happy to be able to see you again.
Relaying cordial greetings between our households, yours,
Anschütz.
