A. Einstein ADS. [28 024]. Welt am Abend, 6 January 1925. Nathan and Norden 2004, p. 92. An English trans- lation (Einstein 1925e) was published in the New York Times, 7 January 1925. [1]This appeal was initiated by the Welt am Abend, the newspaper of the German Communist Party (KPD) on behalf of an amnesty for 7,000 Communist political prisoners. Two days earlier, the Rote Hilfe Berlin-Brandenburg had organized a rally at the Bülowplatz calling for such an amnesty. The rally was attended by 3,000 demonstrators and addressed by the anarchist Erich Mühsam and the Communists Fritz Sauber and Wilhelm Pieck. The event was scheduled one day prior to the opening of the new session of the Reichstag, at which delegates of the KPD also pressed for an amnesty (see Berliner Tageblatt, 5 January 1925, EE, and 6 January 1925, ME).
