Institute of Vilna, at 1133 Broadway, New York, made-public the following text of a message sent by Prof. Albert Einstein to Dr. Simon Dubnow, Je- wish historian who is honorary chairman of the history section of the Institute: "The impoverishment of Eastern Europe, caused by great political events, placed the Jewish masses- in a difficult economic pesition. The urgent need was first . of all to preserve their mere existence. However, man docs not live 9n bread alone, certainly not a Jew. When a small group of people of the spiritual e1ite have ga- thered,,.,together in the Yiddish Scientific Institute in order. to pre- serve the spiritual and moral, tradition of oQr people and wherever possible, to continue the furÂ-ther development of this tradition, this striving deserves the sympathy and the energetic support of those who arc in a position to lend them.
