[1]The fourth annual conference of the Verband Jüdischer Studentenvereine in Deutschland was held in the large auditorium of the Jewish community in Berlin and commenced on 26 December 1925 (see Jüdische Rundschau, 30 December 1925). The Verband was founded in Berlin in 1923. Its purpose was the “unified organization” (“einheitliche Organisierung”) of Jewish student associations in Germany, including the protection of the students’ academic and economic interests, the advance- ment of their intellectual pursuits, and the furthering of their physical training. In 1925, the Verband was composed of eighteen associations with 750 members (see Jacobson and Segall 1926, p. 265, and Adler-Rudel 1959, p. 100). 138. To Michele Besso [Berlin,] 25. XII. 25.
