From Georges Oprescu Geneva, 1 August 1925 As per their agreement prior to AE’s departure for South America, sends a list of names from among whom he and AE would select those who would participate in the upcom- ing October meeting that would coordinate the bibliography of economic sciences. The list includes: Franz Böse, Berlin, editor of Sozialwissenschaftliches Literaturblatt Adolf Weber, University of Frankfurt, collaborator of the Archiv für Sozialwissenschaft Karl Grünberg, University of Frankfurt Emil Lederer, University of Heidelberg, direc- tor of the Archiv für Sozialwissenschaft Georg Schneider, chief curator of the Staats- bibliothek, Berlin and Franz Oppenheimer, of the University of Frankfurt. Intends to travel to Berlin in August and would like to visit AE and some of the people listed. TLS. [34 914]. 69. From Solomon Ginzberg Jerusalem, 2 August 1925 Encloses two letters from Montague D. Eder (on behalf of the Zionist Executive, Lon- don) to J. L. Magnes, as well as the reply to those letters by Magnes, A. Ginzberg (Ahad Ha’am), and Ch. N. Bialik. TLS. [36 888]. Eder’s letter to Magnes of 16 July 1925 refers to meetings of the Executive of the Zionist Organisation in London on 3 and 14 July 1925, at which the minutes of the meeting of the BOGHU, held on 12 April 1925, were discussed. The minutes did not reflect all the details regarding the views of some of those present. The scheme of administration out- lined in the minutes is not one that a number of eminent Jewish savants could endorse, since it would not ensure an active and effective cooperation on the part of the best in- tellectual forces of the Jewish world. Members of the Zionist Executive found them- selves unable to ratify the proposal to hand over the administration and the property of the university on the terms laid down in the minutes. They propose to submit the mate- rial to the Zionist Congress Board of Governors at a meeting on 24 September in Mu- nich. TTr. [36 889]. In a second letter of 16 July 1925 to Magnes, Eder elaborates on the specifics: “as essential that the Board be strengthened on the academic side, and its ac- ademic members be given a real share in the administration of the University.” TTrL. [36 890]. In their reply of 28 July 1925, Ahad Ha’am, Bialik, and Magnes, on behalf of the BOGHU: they agree that the real authority should rest with the board as a whole, but object most “emphatically to the proposal that there be an Executive consisting of a President and two other persons all of whom must be non-residents of Palestine.” TTrL. [36 891].
