From Robert Eisler Paris, 9 February 1926 The Austrian authorities have declared that they will not communicate with him in Paris and that they are lodging a complaint against him. An action by Bavarian scholars against him has also been mentioned, occasioned by an article in the Vossische Zeitung referring to AE’s declaration. Eisler’s position in Paris is untenable. Is seeking assis- tance from the Carnegie Peace Foundation or something similar, since he has moved permanently to Paris and needs financial support to continue his research. ALS. [43 616]. 308. From Walter Gropius [Dessau,] 9 February 1926 Has heard of AE’s lecture in Paris. Inquires whether AE would be willing to lecture to the Bauhaus group in Dessau, and also join the Friends of the Bauhaus. Suggests the month of March, would be very pleased to host AE. TLS. [43 215]. 309. From Max von Laue Zehlendorf, 9 February 1926 Sends funding applications that arrived this day, which can be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the KWIP of 11 February. Gustav Mie requests half an assistant’s salary for Dr. Frankenberger, so that they may continue research on the anomalous dispersion of water waves of ca. 0.5 m wave length, and 1,000 M for an improved, shorter wavelength galvanometer. Christian Füchtbauer requests that he be allowed to use an existing diffu- sion pump made of quartz glass for investigation of absorption lines. Wilhelm Wien still needs 1,000 M for the new magnet and attachments. Laue informs that there is currently 2,500 M available, with an additional 250 M arriving in March. TLS. [40 157]. 310. From Ernst Hochheim Ludwigshafen, 10 February 1926 As director of the physical laboratory of the BASF, and longtime supporter of the Ein- stein Tower, wishes to meet AE together with Rudolf Tomaschek and discuss the latter’s plans to repeat the Michelson-Morley experiment. Carl Bosch has charged him to do ev- erything to promote fundamental questions in physics. Will be in Berlin 15–16 February. ALS. [43 922]. 312. From Patrick Geddes Montpellier, 11 February 1926 Reiterates invitation to Montpellier, also on behalf of Pierre M. Humbert and the Acad- emie de Montpellier. From Jakob Grünberg Vienna, 12 February 1926 Sends issue of Wiener Morgenzeitung in which he has published a brief essay on “Aetherwind und das Relativitätsprinzip,” and informs that he has written the essay on AE’s biography and his relativity theory in Hebrew for the upcoming Enzyklopädie des Judentums (published by Eshkol). Now wishes to translate Einstein 1917a into Hebrew and requests permission. Provides references to Klatzkin and Goldmann of Eshkol Pub- lishing House in Berlin, and Grommer. ALS. [43 801].
