C A L E N D A R O F A B S T R A C T S 1 9 2 6 9 0 3 289. From Felix M. Warburg [New York,] 29 January 1926 Thanks for AE’s letter of 1 January 1926 (Doc. 145). Agrees that the Hebrew University should not become a little local institution, but should have the advantage of worldwide interest and support. The Munich arrangement is not appropriate. Explains how the U.S. model of university governance works. It seems absurd “that the Academic council should recommend to the Board of Governors their own ideas and at the same time be enabled to pass upon their own action, which power is given to them by their newly cre- ated majority on the Board of Governors. This puts the Governors in a ridiculous posi- tion.” Also objects to Ch. Weizmann being head of the BOGHU as long as he is head of the Zionist Organisation. TL. [71 145]. 290. To Leo Kohn [Berlin, after 29 January 1926] Has briefly written to the man that he should inform Kohn in greater detail and that they had already begun the establishment of a microbiological institute (see Abs. 271). He is very happy that Felix M. Warburg will visit, and attaches Warburg’s letter (Abs. 289). Will respond to the effect that American physicians should also send a representative in order to achieve a university statute that is endorsed by all. ALSX. [37 734]. 291. To Getulio das Neves [Berlin,] 30 January 1926 Thanks for the diploma (see Abs. 210) and recollects the paradise of Rio and the warm welcome he was accorded. ALS. [85 940]. 292. From Ludwig Fulda and Albert Osterrieth Berlin, February 1926 Request that AE join the honorary committee of the P.E.N. Club congress that will meet in Berlin on 17–18 May. Receptions at the Reichskanzler and/or with the foreign minis- ter are envisaged. TLS. [44 648]. 293. From Robert Eisler Paris, 1 February 1926 Encloses the bag with the two passports he just picked up. Requests (humorously) reim- bursement of expenses with high interest. Thanks for AE’s recent letter and the joke about relativity. ALS. [43 615]. 294. From IG Farbenindustrie Ludwigshafen, 1 February 1926 Thanks for AE’s willingness to lecture twice to its chemists. Proposes the first lecture for 2 March. TLS. [43 659]. 295. From Michele Besso Bern, 2 February 1926 Continues a discussion of the draft of Beck, Go. 1926 started in Doc. 171. ALS. Einstein and Besso 1972, pp. 220–221. [7 091]. 296. From Ernst B. J. Hoffmann Liegnitz, 2 February 1926 Although in their phone conversation AE had stated that “music has nothing to do with the theory of relativity,” he sends the content table of his book Hoffmann 1924 and will send a copy of the entire volume as well. He is a mathematician and physicist and through the study of relativity has reached the idea that music is nothing but a tonal film that travels past the ear and that it may have something to do with “classic theory of rel- ativity.” A diagram is included. ALS. [43 935]. 297. To the PAW Berlin, 3 February 1926 With others, proposes to award a gold Leibniz Medal to Willis R. Whitney. TLS (Gy- BAW, II–X–6, Bl. 120). [95 633].
