TTrL. [30 054.4]. 12. From Henri Bergson Paris, 18 June 1925 Thanks for the postcard from Rio de Janeiro, cosigned by Aloísio de Castro. Is unable to provide the requested information regarding the next meeting of the ICIC, which will be devoted primarily to the organization of the envisaged IIIC in Paris, since a formal vote on the establishment by the French parliament has not yet taken place. Depending on the date of this vote, the next session may reassemble either in the second half of July, or in November, or even later. ALS. [34 813]. 13. From A. M. Bose Zürich, 18 June 1925 In his letter of March 1925 (Vol. 14, Abs. 659), he had enclosed a certificate from Rabin- dranath Tagore, whom he had met in January, and to whom he had shown AE’s message written in Bose’s notebook. Is trying to continue his studies in Zurich is starving be- cause his brother in India refuses to send him money. Has applied for a scholarship to Calcutta University, and requests a letter of recommendation. Insists that AE accept an Indian blanket as a gift. ALS. [43 333]. 14. From the Walther Rathenau-Stiftung Berlin, 19 June 1925 As the third anniversary of Rathenau’s death approaches, the managing committee, in agreement with Mrs. Rathenau, proposes to postpone their annual meeting to September or October. On the day of the anniversary, the board and the managing committee will lay a wreath at the grave. The door of the foundation house, which Rathenau had left on that morning, will be decorated with an oak and flower garland. On 21 June, Fritz von Unruh will read his poem “Heinrich aus Andernach,” written on the occasion of the mil- lennium celebration of the Rheinland in the Rathenauhaus a report on the foundation’s activities and finances follows. Rathenau’s library of 4,150 volumes mainly consists of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century German and French literature, and historical and philosophical works. Economics is poorly represented there are only nineteenth- century scientific and technical works. Funds have been approved for the creation of a conference room on the top floor. A Walther Rathenau Gesellschaft is to be created, led by a fifty-member senate. The first chairman will be Gerhart Hauptmann. TLS. [32 824]. 15. From Emil Gumbel Berlin, 21 June 1925 As per their earlier telephone conversation, requests that letters of recommendation be sent to Julius Schaxel at the University of Jena, for an appointment at the University of Moscow, and to M. Brockmann, at the time in Berlin, for an appointment in Chile. Asks that his political views, already known to people in Moscow, not be mentioned in the letter for the position in Chile.
