Earned money through difficult work in Malaysia and elsewhere, and repatriated to Vienna in 1920. His savings, which he deposited in the Wienerbankverein Zentrale in Constantinople, have lost their entire value. From Alex and Jette Baerwald Haifa, 31 August 1925 They have suffered much since moving to Palestine, against AE’s advice. After they had submitted architectural plans and budgets for a new synagogue in Tel Aviv, the project was handed over by Meir Dizengoff to Mogendowitsch and the city architect Gerschko- witz. Now Baerwald has been asked by the Wolfssohn Foundation to participate in the plans for the library in Jerusalem. He has had experience with the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin. But the English architects Patrick Geddes and Frank Mears have also been invit- ed. They entreat AE to assist in making sure that Baerwald, as a Jewish architect, gets the commission for this cultural landmark. ALS. [43 161]. 95.
